Caravaggio (1571-1610) became the archetype of the artist rebel. He lived his life on the edge of the law; he was arrested on a number of occasions, and he never allowed anyone to diss him. However, that’s not what made him a true rebel—his rebellious spirit and revolutionary mind came from his risk taking to strive against the mainstream and present reality as it was.
